Common Questions
What is the difference between a speedboat charter and a Phinisi charter?
A speedboat charter uses a fast fiberglass or aluminium boat (20–40 knots) — ideal for day trips covering multiple sites quickly in comfort for 6–15 people. A Phinisi is a traditional Indonesian wooden sailing vessel, slower but with accommodation, perfect for 2–4 night live-aboard journeys. Both offer private exclusive access.
What is included in a private Komodo charter?
All private charters include the boat, captain and crew, licensed national park guide, park entrance fees (Rp 250,000/person), diving or snorkelling equipment, all meals on board, soft drinks, and emergency equipment. Alcohol is by arrangement. NITROX is available on some vessels at extra charge.
When is the best time to visit Komodo National Park?
The dry season from April to October offers calmer seas and better visibility (10–25m). The pink beach and scenic islands are accessible year-round. July–August is peak season when currents are strongest (good for drift diving). The rainy season (November–March) has rougher crossings but fewer crowds and lower rates.
How many people can join a private Komodo charter?
Speedboat charters typically accommodate 6–15 passengers depending on the vessel. Phinisi live-aboards accommodate 6–12 guests in private cabins. All bookings are 100% private — no mixing with other groups.
Is Komodo dragon viewing guaranteed?
Komodo dragons (Varanus komodoensis) are wild animals in their natural habitat. Sightings are highly likely at Rinca Island (year-round) and Komodo Island, where rangers guide safe viewing routes. We have never had a trip without a Komodo sighting, though we cannot legally guarantee wildlife encounters.
What certification is required for diving in Komodo?
Open Water (OW) certification is required for reef dives to standard depths. Advanced Open Water or above is recommended for some faster-current dive sites. PADI or equivalent certifications from any country are accepted. We can arrange Discover Scuba experiences for non-certified guests at beginner sites.
